There's a lot to look at on the Windermere Preparatory
School Campus. Phase II of construction has now been
completed.
Pertree Constructors completed the second classroom
neighborhood, joining its sister neighborhood on the
North Campus. The actual ribbon cutting of the new construction
will take place on the first day of school, Aug. 15.
The new neighborhood includes 20 lower school classrooms,
a dining hall, and the Knowledge Center. Students in
Pre-K3 through grade 3 will take up residency there
in August.
The new neighborhood is structurally similar to the
now-old neighborhood, with the classrooms flanking a
scenic courtyard. “The private-home-like appearance
of the neighborhoods accentuates the nurturing environment
in which WPS delivers a rigorous academic program,”
says Dr. Leigh Byron, headmaster of WPS. “Faculty
members, students, and parents are excited about the
newest addition to the WPS campus.”
To enhance the new construction, the banks of the central
pond have been adorned with new landscaping to accentuate
the pond’s and foot bridge’s scenic beauty.
In addition, a floral arrangement spelling out “WPS”
graces the area at the feet of the flagpoles.
In addition to the physical expansions, WPS is growing
in student population. As of July 5, enrollment has
increased 16% since the previous school year, and more
students are expected to join the WPS community before
school opens. Waiting lists in some grades have already
formed.
Dr. Byron sees the completion of the new neighborhood
as another symbol of WPS’s commitment “to
ensure that its world-class educational program is offered
to students in a world-class setting.” The new
neighborhood is the latest construction project at WPS
– the new tennis and basketball courts were completed
in April. The neighborhood won’t be the newest
structure on campus for long – groundbreaking
for the new gym and baseball field are expected in the
fall. |
