An
Exciting Opening Day
The
sixth year at WPS began on August 15, as 542 students
met their teachers and classmates and took their initial
steps of the great year ahead. This year, the excitement
is heightened by the opening of the second new neighborhood,
with twenty classrooms for students in pre-k(3) through
grade 3. Grades 4 and remain in the old neighborhood.
The
thrill of the new neighborhood was transparent, as students
studying in that area looked wide-eyed at their new
educational home that includes a dining hall, a new
Knowledge Center, and of course, the bright, airy, state-of-the-art
classrooms.
Our
incredible growth, 177 new students, was an integral
factor in the hiring of over twenty new staff members.
The superior reputation of WPS was instrumental in recruiting
outstanding teachers from different cities in the country,
such as Denver, Milwaukee, Houston, and Detroit, and
Connecticut. They seamlessly meshed with their distinguished
colleagues, and both new and returning teachers were
seen the past week and weekend jointly preparing classrooms
and planning lessons.
We
pleased that our enrollment, which increased by 26%
since the close of school in June, continues to increase
daily. The school year begins with full sections in
our pre-k(3), grade three, and grade nine. As every
room on campus is used, the only possibility for entry
into any of those grades is if a current student leaves.
The
sixth year will be the best one yet.
