First and Second Graders Reach Out to Younger Katrina
Hurricane Victims
For
their community service project, Windermere Prep first
and second graders wanted to reach out to students at
a school in New Orleans that was continuing to recover
from Hurricane Katrina. The Golden Rule Foundation in
Maitland, hooked the students up with Woodmere Elementary
in Marrero, LA. The WPS students not only gathered six
large boxes of school supplies to send, but each one
designed stationery and put it in a special folder with
a pencil, and wrote a pen pal letter to the Louisiana
students to let them know Florida children cared about
what was happening in their lives. Some WPS students
read their letter to their classmates on the Community
Service Day held at school. They look forward to becoming
pen pals with these students.
