Scholastic Book Fair Makes New Knowledge Center Debut

The
Windermere Preparatory community is invited to “Enter
the Kingdom of Reading Where Books Rule” at the
WPS annual fall Scholastic Book Fair. The fair is open
daily through September 16, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at
the school’s new Knowledge Center.
The
fair has taken on grander proportions this year. “This
is a larger book fair with a wider selection of books
than ever before, held in the new, larger Knowledge
Center,” said Helene Valentine, the center’s
director. The WPS Knowledge Center moved into its new
location with the opening of the new WPS classroom neighborhood
in August.
On
Wednesday, students and parents are invited to participate
in a special family contest event titled “Dragon
Breath Mints.” Students are encouraged to visit
the fair while they are on campus for their conferences
and enter the contest with their parents. The winners
will receive a gift certificate to the fair.
This
year, also in conjunction with the fair, the Knowledge
Center is promoting the Scholastic-sponsored fund-raiser
“One for Books.” Students are asked to contribute
“one dollar” to go towards new library books.
In return for the contribution to the WPS Knowledge
Center, Scholastic will match the money to send to certain
literacy charities. “The program gives students
a chance to contribute new books to our WPS Knowledge
Center collection, while helping others,” said
Ms. Valentine.
