| Composer
in Residence for 2005-06 Selected
Windermere
Preparatory School recently selected its Composer in
Residence for the 2005–06 School Year. Anna Meredith,
from Edinburgh (UK) is currently the composer in residence
with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. She has studied
and graduated with distinction from the Royal College
of Music in London. An active composer and performer,
her works have been performed throughout Europe and
have received airtime on the BBC radio network. She
does a variety work with other artists and mediums,
especially with the Camberwell Composers Collective,
whose goal is to perform new music and combine multimedia,
jazz and electronic influences with traditional classical
music.
Miss
Meredith will be spending a week in May working with
students in composition and the world premiere of a
new work for wind band. For more information on Anna,
you can visit her Web site: http://www.annameredith.com.
The
Windermere Preparatory School Band Program conducts
its Composer in Residence program annually, giving students
the opportunity to work with professional musicians
and to discover the artistry of the creation of music.
Students learn about living composers and their contribution
to society as a whole.
The
WPS Music Department involves almost 80% of the student
body; 40% of the students are taking private music lessons
per week on piano, violin, and traditional band instruments.
The chorus and band have 100% involvement in grades
four through six. Students in grades three and four
learn basic piano skills and music theory in our state-of-the-art
Clavinova Lab, which was donated by the Yamaha Music
Corporation and Piano Distributors of Orlando.
