THE WINDERMERE PREP HIGH SCHOOL CURRICULUM

Out of all private high schools in Florida, families choose Windermere Preparatory School in greater Orlando because of our rigorous curriculum and the variety of ways their child can develop outside the classroom — including the many activities of our boarding program and beyond. During these years, our academic focus stems primarily from the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, a challenging and globally minded pre-university course of study that demands the best from motivated students.

WPS High School Curriculum

The academic focus of the high school program at Windermere Preparatory School stems primarily from the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. All high school students benefit from studying at an IB school and encounter IB classes as a two-year program which begins in their junior year (offering them an internationally recognized, rigorous curriculum that prepares students for college success).

Our teachers challenge students in the classroom, encouraging them to think critically about the world around them and evaluate what they learn with a global lens. Because we have students from dozens of different countries, our students build relationships in the classroom with classmates of very different backgrounds from their own. This dynamic leads to high quality discussions as each student contributes their perspective.

To enrich our students’ learning experiences, teachers collaborate across the disciplines to connect different subjects through experiential events. Whether students are building their knowledge through special seminars on campus or through domestic or international field trips, they have many chances to apply their knowledge.

Beyond the classroom, we encourage students to get involved with extracurricular activities, including clubs, athletics, and the fine and performing arts. Having a well-rounded background elevates them for college applications, and we offer excellent guidance and college planning to help them identify and gain admission to their first-choice college or university.

WPS High School Facts & Highlights

Windermere Prep High School Curriculum Guide

Windermere Preparatory High School students complete a minimum of 6.5 credits each school year, resulting in accumulating the graduation requirement of 24 credits. A student’s class schedule is comprised of a combination of core classes (English, Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, and World Languages) and electives.

We don’t just have any Florida high school curriculum — we offer a wide variety of elective options and IB courses that make our curriculum the most distinguished in the state. Our students can create a program of studies that keeps them motivated and challenged to perform at their best.

Through the Canvas Learning Management System, students and parents can stay updated on classroom assignments, projects, and other activities related to the high school. Each student has their own Canvas account to manage their class load.

At the end of each quarter, students receive report cards, which provide information about their progress. The individual quarter grades serve as good indicators of each student’s mastery of the class content. Final semester grades appear on students’ transcripts.

As the only private IB high school in Central Florida offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, Windermere Preparatory School delivers a variety of IB courses housed within six groups as identified by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO): English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, World Language, and the Fine and Performing Arts. To assist in the transition into the IB and prepare students for the challenges they will face in their final two years of high school, teachers have created a strong academic progression plan for students in grades 9 and 10.

Windermere Preparatory High School students can interact with students from all around the world. With a population of over 55 nationalities, our High School provides students with a culturally rich environment that fosters global mindedness. In our classrooms, students often work collaboratively so they not only develop content knowledge but also the interpersonal skills they need beyond the classroom. Teachers understand that the students need to collaborate with one another, so they are all moving toward mastery of the content.

As an IB school, we seek to develop students who demonstrate the ten traits identified on the IB Learner Profile. This includes creating students who are Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-Minded, Caring, Risk-Takers, Balanced, and Reflective. Although academics are part of the building process, we also understand how critical it is for us to develop all aspects of the whole student. Using the IB curriculum and experiential learning opportunity, our students develop these characteristics of the IB Learner and so much more.
