The art curriculum at WPS is designed to bring to each student the confidence and desire to create. Students are encouraged to be creative and focus more on the process than the end product.  Students are always encouraged to explore their creative options whether it is drawing, painting or ceramics. While following standards and guidelines the art room is a safe haven for creative expression and developing critical thinking skills.

Students focus on the principles and elements of design: line, shape, space, texture, color, and form.  All students are introduced to famous artists and their works throughout the years.  Older students also participate in critiques which build vocabulary and aesthetic values.

All students from pre-k3 through second grade attend art classes once a week throughout the year. Students in third and fourth grade attend art classes everyday for one quarter.  Students in fifth grade and above may participate in art as a course elective that meets every day.
