The
Lower Form consists of grades one through four and is noteworthy
in many ways. Great emphasis is placed on reading, not only
the classics and more contemporary pieces, but also on a wide
range of thought provoking topics. For example, students studying
the history of the Roman Empire are encouraged to discover
how that time period continues to have an influence on the
world today. Additionally, Windermere Preparatory School teachers
often engage a multidisciplinary approach to enrich and encourage
discussions. The “Principles of Flight” module
is approached from three different perspectives, history,
math, and science. Another distinctive feature is the emphasis
on life skills. In addition
to these core subject areas, students participate in art,
drama, and music one period per week and physical education
2 periods per week. Technology is a key component of the Lower
Form curriculum and in addition to having lessons executed
with the assistance of computer resources, students are able
to spend one period per week learning new skills in a state
of the art computer lab. We
firmly believe that the acquisition of a second language directly
affects overall intellectual ability and for that reason,
all students in this form take Spanish two days a week.
