ELIGIBILITY
Team selection
Any
student interested in participating in an interscholastic
sport MUST HAVE A COMPLETED SPORTS PHYSICAL AND CONSENT FORMS
BEFORE TRYING-OUT FOR ANY TEAM. This is an FHSAA rule and
is designed for the safety of the students-athletes. If a
student has maintained an overall G.P.A. of 2.5 or above,
and has A COMPLETED SPORTS PHYSICAL AND LIABILITY FORMS handed
in to the Athletic Director, he or she is eligible to try
out for any or all sports teams. The coach will decide on
the number of players he or she would like on the team and
who will represent the school in games.
Student-athletes and parents should
keep in mind that the Athletic Director, Administration, and
coaches will consider the following as they participate on
any Windermere Preparatory team: attendance and attitude during
practice and games, overall behavior, and academics. Should
any or all of the above be questioned, then a recommendation
mutually agreed upon by the Athletic Director, Administration,
and coaches will occur to decide on appropriate measures.
Physical Examinations
The FHSAA requires that all students-athletes
complete a physical examination
before they may participate in practice or games. This paperwork
must be handed in to the Athletic Director to keep on file
for the school year. A sports physical must be completed after
July 1 and may be used for one school year. The FHSAA form
to be completed by a physician must be obtained from either
the Athletic Director or downloaded from the FHSAA website
at www.fhsaa.org. The Athletic Department will host a Sports
Night at the beginning of each school year in which students
will be able to receive their sports physical on-campus.
Athletic Eligibility Policy
The
Athletic Director will hold a mandatory meeting at the beginning
of the school year to explain the athletic eligibility procedures,
give a list of sports offered, and introduce the coaches.
WPS is a member of the FHSAA and follows all rules and regulations
set forth by the association.
Athletic eligibility of each student-athlete will be reviewed
each week during that particular sport season. Eligibility
is determined by academic and behavioral progress in each
class. The Athletic Director, teachers, coaches, students,
and parents will work together to monitor and maintain eligibility
during the season. Student-athletes are expected to fully
participate in all of their classes, or they will jeopardize
their chances to participate in games or matches.
Coaches will receive a list of students who are ineligible
prior to the team selection process. Academic eligibility
is based on the most recent semester grade point average.
A student must have received a 2.5 G.P.A. or above to participate
in any WPS interscholastic sport.
Athletes at WPS must be reminded that playing a sport is an
extracurricular activity that involves a major commitment.
Student-athletes must attend 80% of practices or they will
lose their eligibility. Student-athletes who do not make a
commitment to a full sport season jeopardize further athletic
team participation at WPS. The Director of Athletics will
make all final determinations.
WPS student-athletes are expected to honor all rules and regulations
set in the student-parent handbook. Furthermore, our student-athletes
will represent the school with impeccable behavior both during
school and after school, sportsmanship, and fair play in all
athletic contests.
All perspective WPS student-athletes and parents will sign
an Athletics Honor Code before they may participate in any
interscholastic sport.
