WPS UNIFORM POLICY & GUIDELINES
2006-2007

Uniform Policy
We believe that uniforms help create an environment in which each child may demonstrate his or her uniqueness while eliminating the prevalent cultural atmosphere of judging one another by appearance and outward adornment. We believe that uniforms show respect for authority, respect for self, self-discipline, and help prepare students for the future. A thorough dress code examination is conducted each morning, and if a student is found to be out of uniform, the parent will be called to bring the appropriate attire from home.

Uniform Guidelines
• Students are expected to wear the appropriate uniform purchased from the WPS uniform supplier. All slacks and shorts must be worn at natural waistline. Girls’ skirts, shorts and skorts should be no more than 3 inches above the knee.
• Uniforms must be clean and ironed. Shirts must be tucked in at all times except for the girls’ blouses with ¾” sleeves.
• On Wednesday Dress Day, students in Grades 5th-11th must wear a khaki skirt or slacks, white oxford shirt, and school-approved tie. The navy blazer is required from December 3 through March 28. Blazers must be worn on Picture Days in September and February, and at special events and award ceremonies.
• On Wednesday Dress Day, students in Grades PK3-4th must wear khaki slacks and white polo shirt for boys and sailor/jumper dress for girls.
• Shoes on Dress Day must be brown or black leather shoes for Grades 5th-11. No boots, spiked heels, platform shoes, open-toe or open-back shoes or sandals. On all other days, students may wear solid white athletic shoes. Shoes may not have flashing lights, neon colors, glitter, wheels, etc. Laces should be tied.
• Socks: solid white.
• Belts: Must be solid brown or black. No chains, studs, decorative buckles or other ornaments should hang from belts.
• Hats are not allowed.
• In colder weather, students, while in the classroom, may only wear WPS logo items available for purchase in our bookstore or from the WPS uniform supplier. Items such as white turtlenecks with logo, navy sweater, sweatshirt or blazer with logo are allowed. Students may wear navy sweatpants and a WPS sweatshirt or jacket for PE.
• Jewelry should be conservative. For both boys and girls, necklaces, watches and rings should be tasteful and simple. No large chain necklaces or chokers. Boys are not allowed to wear pierced earrings. Girls should wear post earrings or hoop earrings no larger than a nickel and only one earring per ear. No dangling earrings allowed. No body piercing or visible tattoos are permitted.
• Extreme hairstyles or hair color are not permitted. All hairstyles should be neat, clean and in keeping with a preparatory school environment. Boys’ hair styles should not touch the collar of the shirt or cover the ear. Hair should not be below the eyebrow.
• Boys should be clean shaven.
• Hair accessories must be simple; they must be navy, white, red or the school plaid.
• Please write your child’s name on the inside tag of all clothing to aid in return if lost.
• For Grades 5-11, PE uniforms are required with white athletic shoes. PE uniforms must be purchased from the WPS uniform supplier.
